The Evening Standard Loves Helen David's Home

On October 3rd 2007, the Evening Standard Homes & Property section featured a colourful two-page spread about English Eccentrics Creator, Helen David’s beautiful home.

We were delighted when the Evening Standard approached us to do the Homes & Property spread. Colour is central to the English Eccentrics ethos and nowhere is that more obvious than in the home of EE founder Helen David and her business partner husband Colin. After all, making statements with colour and standing out from the crowd is what being an English Eccentric is all about.

The Evening Standard article picked up on the vivid purples, hot cerise and tangerine colours, which are cleverly used against neutral backgrounds in Helen David’s home. These neutral canvases give Helen the ability to try new concepts out in her own home before introducing them into the English Eccentrics Interiors range.

You will find brightly coloured flocked candlesticks, vibrant silk cushions with velvet patterns flocked onto them and the pièce de résistance, English Eccentrics' Louis XVI’s tangerine flocked chairs with silk upholstery all on display in the David's Georgian home.

The Evening Standard article noted the importance of art in Helen’s home, where large and colourful David originals brighten up nearly every room. This is no surprise given Helen’s artistic background: being a student of Textile Design at Camberwell Art School and then studying for a Postgraduate degree in Fashion at Central St Martins College of Art.

Helen’s favourite pieces of artwork are reproduced as Giclee Prints and are available to buy online in limited editions. Original pieces of mixed media art are also showcased on the website - and have to be seen to be believed. Now branching out into rug design, Helen’s creative streak doesn’t seem to be running dry.

"I've always loved colour ever since childhood and find art such a great way to channel my emotions and creativity. Colin and I took time out from the English Eccentrics business to do a Printmaking Course at the Royal College of Art in 2003, it really opened our eyes up to what we could be doing. We've now made our artistic dream into a reality with our new English Eccentrics interiors range - which is a very satisfying feeling". You can check out the English Eccentrics interior range here.
